Scuderia Ferrari has struggled in the 2023 F1 season so far. The Italian team has fallen behind rivals over the first three races and failed to achieve a single podium. Moreover, the Australian GP ended in a disaster for Maranello. Carlos Sainz went from P3 to out of the points after a late penalty, and Charles Leclerc retired from the race. However, Team Principal Fred Vasseur emphasized the team’s progress.
The 54-year-old confessed that the Ferrari camp was unhappy after scoring any points at Albert Park. Fred Vasseur admitted, “We are a bit down with all of this.” Although the team was satisfied with the progress, it made in the first three races of the season, especially the Australian GP. Vasseur explained, “But overall, I think the mood is positive because we did a mega step forward in terms of performance in the race.”
The Frenchman assured that the Scuderia would work upon its efforts so far and charge throughout the year. Fred continued, “we will build up the rest of the season on this. I will be positive and I will push again and again.” Moreover, Fred Vasseur acknowledged that Ferrari is in the right direction despite the disappointing result. He stated, “I think overall that we did a decent step forward.” Carlos Sainz’s drive showed the team could get a podium in the upcoming races.

“It is like it is now,” Fred Vasseur on Ferrari’s progress in 2023
The Ferrari team boss was content with the development of the SF-23. Fred Vasseur said, “It is like it is now.” Additionally, Vasseur was adamant that the Scuderia had shifted its focus completely on the next race of the year in Baku. He said, “We have to take the positives and build up for the next races on this.” The Azerbaijan GP in 2022 saw Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz retire from the race.
The 54-year-old shed light on potentially not bringing updates for the Baku race. Fred Vasseur highlighted the F1 Sprint weekend and the track’s characteristics for this decision. Vassuer explained, “Baku is a sprint race, so it’s a bit different, but we will have updates all over the season.” Accordingly, Fred gave a clear plan for the Scuderia in Azerbaijan. He concluded, “Let’s prepare for the weekend and don’t think about damage.”
Thus, Fred Vasseur is confident that Ferrari has made progress in 2023. However, the team’s woes have continued this year, with reliability issues and poor strategic calls. Vasseur is convinced that the team’s fortunes can change over the course of the season as upgrades start coming in from Maranello. Fans will be keenly looking at the progress Ferrari has made this year.
