Betrayal for Carlos Sainz? Frederic Vasseur proclaims he wants to be “world champion” with Charles Leclerc

Fred Vasseur, the Ferrari Team Principal, has made it known that Charles Leclerc wants to be an F1 World Champion with the Italian team. He has even indicated that the Monegasque driver is key to Ferrari’s F1 targets rather than Carlos Sainz. He does not see the latter as potent a driver as Charles Leclerc at the pinnacle of motor racing.

Fred Vasseur, while shedding light on his star driver’s prospects, said, “Drivers are key. I said yesterday it’s very important to have the drivers involved with the project and for a long time. I’m sure we have a good combination and the question about Charles, it’s a question as usual. But I think Charles also said that he wants to be world champion with Ferrari.”

And I want to be world champion with Charles and work with Carlos [Sainz]. We are very happy with the drivers… and they are doing a good job. So far so good.” Fred Vasseur has made it crystal clear that Charles Leclerc is the Maranello-based team’s most prized possession, and he doesn’t see him leaving the team anytime soon.

Moreover, has gone on to admit that Leclerc also wants to become an F1 World Champion with the Italian giants. The 25-year-old is a hot property at the pinnacle of motor racing, and while several teams have got their eyes on him, Ferrari is in no way looking to hand his Leclerc’s services over to a rival F1 team.

Charles Leclerc is starting the Azerbaijan GP from P1

Charles Leclerc is considered as the dominant driver on the Ferrari F1 team. While Carlos Sainz has, on many occasions, proved that he can be extremely quick, he is not as consistent as his teammate in that department. Moreover, this was made clearer during the qualifying session of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Sainz was eight-tenths down on Leclerc during qualifying.

While this gap does not seem like much from the outside, it is huge as far as F1 is concerned. But despite this fact, Carlos Sainz is starting the upcoming Sunday’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix from P4 on the grid. He will be extremely close to the light of Max Verstappen, Sergio Perez, and his teammate going into Turn 1 at the Baku Circuit.

Taking everything into account that Fred Vasseur has said about Leclerc and Sainz, the latter will have a point to prove at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Would the Spanish driver be able to get the better of his Monegasque teammate during the upcoming Sunday’s race? Or do you see Leclerc coming out as the dominant driver?
