After over a decade in Formula 1, Daniel Ricciardo finally had to take a step back from regular racing at the end of last year’s season. The Australian holds a record of being the racer with the second highest number of consecutive Grand Prix start only after Lewis Hamilton. The Honey Badger stepped into F1 in 2011 with his first appearance being at the British Grand Prix of that year, and in 2022, at the Abu Dhabi GP, he had his last Grand Prix for now, since he failed to secure a seat at any of the teams for 2023.
As Daniel Ricciardo had appeared for a staggering 232 races between 2011 to 2022, it goes without saying that he suddenly found too much time on his hands when he was dropped prematurely from McLaren because of poor results. In a recent interview, the Hobey Badger was asked how he was spending his days away from the tracks, and he answered that it was much-needed for him to take a recess from regular racing so that he could focus more on his “little, fun hobbies” that he had neglected all this time.
Apart from being a great F1 racer, Daniel Ricciardo is a successful business as well. He has his own clothing line and his wine business which he started with St. Hugo Wines. And Daniel has also landed a non-racing job at his old team, Red Bull, where he gets to test their racing simulator from time to time. Thus, all these roles have kept Daniel Ricciardo quite busy ever since he left McLaren as he said, “These are the things I’m genuinely really enjoying and invested in. So they’re my fun little hobbies. I say hobbies. They’re turning into something else. But they’re my fun projects on the side.”

Daniel Ricciardo claims to get time to himself ever since McLaren exit has been “nice”
Daniel Ricciardo ended up losing his Formula 1 seat at the end of 2022 after a series of dismal performances at McLaren throughout two consecutive seasons. Ever since then, the Australian has made it very clear that he has not left Formula 1 forever, and is treating this time period as a break instead. However, Formula 1 fans have been very keen to know what the Honey Badger has been up to during his ‘break’ from Formula 1.
In a recent interview with TopGear, Daniel Ricciardo stated, “I think [I’m] also understanding the things I’ve learnt in these first three months, the things I want to invest more energy in. The two big ones for me I’d say are the wine [DR3 X St Hugo Wines], and the clothing business [Enchanté by Daniel Ricciardo]. And then it’s [also] nice just getting time to myself.“
In other news, fans expect Daniel Ricciardo to make a comeback into regular racing next year in Sergio Perez’s seat. But no official confirmation has come from the executives at Red Bull regarding this.
