“George has taken a bit of my glory away,” Lando Norris jokingly reacts to George Russell’s pole position in Hungary
Lando and George
Lando Norris has congratulated George Russell on the first pole position of his career and has also jokingly indicated that Russell stole his thunder during the event.
George Russell and Mercedes were nowhere near the top half of the grid during FP3 but somehow they were able to find the right balance ahead of the qualifying session.
Moreover, Lando Norris was tipped as one of the drivers who could spring a surprise but no one expected George Russell to land his W13 at the top spot at the end of qualifying.
The result came as a huge shock to many people up and down the paddock and Norris while congratulating Russell said, “A very good day for us, a little bit disappointed that George has taken a little bit of my glory away!“
“But I’m very happy for him, his first pole in Formula 1, so congrats to him.“
“It was a strong day, and we’re ahead of the guys we want to be ahead of. P4 is very strong for us, and on a track which isn’t easy to overtake on, and I hope that’s the case tomorrow.“
Lando Norris believes the team has developed a better understanding of the MCL36
Lando Norris’s P4 finish has brought a lot of life back to the McLaren F1 team and the 22-year-old feels that they are now on the right trajectory.
Lando’s teammate Daniel has also managed a Top 10 starting slot and the team is looking in good shape to score some decent points in Hungary.
Moreover, the Brit has indicated that the team has started to develop a good understanding of its car and now is aware of where they are weaker than its 2022 rival Alpine.
Norris while stressing about it said, “We were not far off the pole. Considering where we were at the beginning of the season, I’m very happy with that.”
“If we look back to last week, Alpine were the quicker car still, but I think this weekend our car has worked well straight from the off, and is performing in a strong place.”
“I think that has allowed us to understand even more how and where it performs very well, and where it doesn’t perform so well. I think that’s clear for us now.”
“The slow-speed corners are where we struggle, and where Alpine is very strong. They’re even strong in medium- and high-speed corners; they just have a good car all-round really.”
The McLaren starlet has given deep insights into the team’s car in comparison to Alpine and firmly believes that the French team’s package is really good and goes well on almost all kinds of circuits.
McLaren is currently P5 in the Constructors Championship with Alpine just 4 points ahead of them and after looking at what Norris has said about their enticing battle with Alpine, can the papaya-colored team overtake them in the Constructors Championship in Hungary?
