George Russell has been making his trade at the pinnacle of motor racing for Mercedes since 2022. While he lost out in the team battle with Lewis Hamilton this year, he has made it known that he performed very well during the campaign and that he is only getting started.
George Russell shocked the F1 world when he beat Lewis Hamilton in the team battle during his rookie campaign with Mercedes, but during this year’s tussle, the more experienced Brit gave Russell a taste of his own medicine and had the upper hand on him throughout the season.

However, this has not hurt the 25-year-old. Russell said, as reported by LWOS;
I truly believe in myself. The team believes in me. And that’s been really down to the fact that I’ve been teammates with Lewis and held my own. I really feel like I’m only just getting started… I think I’m performing at a really high level.
Looking at the reaction of the younger Brit, it is safe to assume that he has not let his indifferent 2023 F1 have a bad impact on him. He firmly believes that he has done well as Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes teammate and that he is only getting started at the pinnacle of motor racing to do great things.
George Russell could prove to be Mercedes’s F1 future
While George Russell has indicated that he is getting better and better, he could prove to be the driver who leads Mercedes toward a glorious future. Lewis Hamilton is contracted to the Brackley-based team until the end of 2025 and after that, no one is sure whether he would continue or not.

Russell, on his side of things also has a deal in place until the end of 2025 but given his age, there is a very good chance that he would continue with Mercedes for many years to come. Toto Wolff and Co. firmly believe that they have a world-champion caliber driver in their ranks.

George Russell is on an upward trajectory at the pinnacle of motor racing and considering this, the 2024 F1 season could prove to be the campaign, where he fully gets out of Hamilton’s shadow and makes a serious claim of being one of the top drivers on the current F1 grid.
