Oliver Bearman is the name making rounds on the web for all the right reasons. The youngest driver during the Saudi Arabian GP performed incredibly well in his first-ever F1 race. Bearman’s brilliant performance left everyone astonished at the end of the race, leading to speculations regarding his possibility of being part of the sport for next season.
The 18-year-old Bearman is currently a Ferrari and Haas reserved driver and is part of PREMA for F2. What’s spellbinding is how quickly he got acquainted with the Ferrari SF-24. He drove the challenger brilliantly during the 50-lap Saudi event.
Other than neat driving skills, also has great physical endurance and intelligence. Another Englishman who finished one place ahead of Oliver Bearman, George Russell, while praising the former told the media,
He did an amazing job, Coming in at a circuit like [Jeddah] as well is extremely difficult, and he exceeded everybody’s expectations. I’ve followed him briefly in the past, but I think he caught a lot of people by surprise. He clearly had the confidence straight from the off, pushing the car to the limit. So yeah, respect to him for the job he’s done, and I fully expect to see him on the grid next year or the year after.George Russell said: motorsportweek.com
The F1 community is currently wondering if Russell’s prediction about Bearman will come true in the next season or not. Many fans posted on social media, arguing that the young driver should be driving a Ferrari rather than Lewis Hamilton. As to whether Bearmen gets a chance in F1 next season or not, only time will tell.
George Russell gives his take on W15 following disappointing performances
George Russell has surprisingly been performing well compared to his teammate, Lewis Hamilton. But despite his best efforts, the team is unable to reach the place they wish to be. The Mercedes W15 was praised by many after preseason testing in Bahrain.
After two Grand Prix, the Mercedes drivers are getting frustrated with the car’s inability to perform at the level everyone expects. In the last two races, the Brackley-based team was barely able to make a solid impression. After failing to produce a good car the last two seasons, they had high hopes from their 2024 challenger. After Saudi Arabian GP, Russell told the media,
FP1, straight out of the box, we were top of the timesheets and always in the top three. FP2, P2. Then, both weekends, the pace just falling away from us. That hasn't been our competitors getting faster; that's been us getting slower. So, we need to understand why that is. But it's fine margins now. It’s so close with ourselves, McLaren, Aston.George Russell said: motorsport.com
According to the young Brit, his team is still trying to understand the car. Russell and Hamilton had been complaining about the bouncing for quite some time now. Mercedes has one weekend before the Australian GP to fix the issues and provide the drivers with a potent car.
