At Silverstone, George Russell experienced his first retirement of the season. The British driver was able to place in the top five positions in the first nine Grands Prix, but he was forced to drop out of the race in England before it even got underway.
Alfa Romeo driver Guanyu Zhou, George Russell, and AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly learned the hard way at the beginning of the Grand Prix of Great Britain before Turn 1. Later, Russell’s Mercedes W13 collided with Zhou’s Alfa Romeo after the latter entered the sandwich and hit Russell. Zhou slipped and tumbled over the tyre stacks up against the barriers before landing upside down on the circuit.

Following the terrifying accident of Guanyu Zhou’s Alfa Romeo, Russell had to drop out of the race. He shared his thoughts on that: “It’s really frustrating, because we had the pace to get back to at least sixth place. So many emotions, but I am happy that Zhou is okay. It’s terrible to see a crash like that.”
“I ran back to the team to check and when I came back the car was already on the tow truck, which meant I couldn’t restart. I asked the marshals not to touch the car and in the end there turned out to be nothing wrong with the car, except for a flat tire,” added the Briton.
In the British Grand Prix, his teammate and 7-time Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton showed significant improvements. The 37-year-old driver fought his way up to the top three after starting in fifth place. Even though Hamilton appeared to be in position to win, he ultimately had to compromise for third.
