George Russell makes SHOCKING claim, blames three of his colleagues for breaking trust in Formula 1
George Russell has given out which 'rogue' F1 drivers make it difficult for other colleagues to go against them for wheel-to-wheel racing.
Formula 1 is one of the toughest floors of motor racing, with the drivers frequently going above 225 miles per hour while swerving through the twists and turns of the Grand Prix circuits. When there are only twenty racers taking part in such a dangerous sport, it is an undoubted fact that they have an understanding amongst each other. This agreement among them helps them drive safely even when they go for wheel-to-wheel racing against each other. But sometimes, one of the drivers goes rogue and breaches the “trust”, leading to safety issues for his colleagues.
Formula One fans remember drivers like Sebastian Vettel for his classy driving as he made it a point to leave enough space for the opponents if they had a chance to surpass him on the tracks. On the other hand, there are some racers like Romain Grosjean who were involved in more than one arguments with his fellow F1 drivers because of his random changing of lanes while driving. Now, George Russell has entered the big leagues with his new contract with Mercedes and he is getting to frequently go up against heavyweight rivals like Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez.
At a recent interview, Russell has revealed that, while he finds most of his colleagues to be completely aware of the space that they need to leave for wheel-to-wheel racing, there are some who fail to do so. George Russell thus stated, “[There are] maybe three drivers on the grid who you wouldn’t feel comfortable going against. There’s a trust between most of the drivers. I don’t think [those three unnamed racers] have the spatial awareness of others.”
George Russell highlights what differs between him and Max Verstappen’s style of racing
One and a half years into his tenure at Mercedes, George Russell has already attained victory at his first Grand Prix and wants to go for more wins. While talking about why he has to be a bit more aggressive on the field right now as opposed to Max Verstappen’s laid back driving style, he said, “When you’re battling for a championship you fight slightly differently.”
George continued, “Max is probably less aggressive than he’s ever been in the past because he’s in not in a position that he needs to be aggressive. Whereas we’re probably in a bit more of a ‘do or die’ position now to get that one chance of victory throughout a season.”
No matter what George believes about the other drivers, it is true that he is at a good place right now when his F1 career is concerned. The Norfolk native helped the Silver Arrows get their first double podium of the season a few weeks ago in Spain with his brilliant drive. His teammate Lewis Hamilton was also perfect in his execution as the British pair attained P2 and P3 behind race winner Max Verstappen. Now, it remains to be seen how they emulate similar performances in the upcoming races to bring laurels to their Brackley-based team.
