The Mercedes Formula 1 team had a disaster of an outing at the 2023 Brazilian Grand Prix. It was so horrendous that its team principal, Toto Wolff, deemed it the worst in the last 13 years. While the team is down at the moment, George Russell has tried to ooze a bit of positivity ahead of Las Vegas.
George Russell had a DNF at the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace F1 circuit. But despite this fact, he has admitted that in his opinion, Mercedes’s Brazil disaster was nothing more than a one-off bad performance. However, Russell has also emphasized the need to understand what went wrong for the team.
There are so many question marks. It's the exact same race car as what we've had since Austin, where the car has been capable of podiums every race, even before in Singapore and Qatar, [it was] capable from the podiums.Russell told racingnews365
George Russell acknowledged that this was a significant surprise, emphasizing the need to learn from it. He appears confident that their future races will show improvement.
George Russell and Co. only fell backwards during the Brazil GP
While George Russell is convinced of having better outings in comparison to Brazil in the remaining two races, Mercedes had an extremely torrid time during the 71-lap Brazil GP. Despite starting the race from P5 and P8 with Lewis Hamilton and Russell, they only fell backwards during the race.
The former 7-time world champion had to settle for a disappointing P8 finish whereas the younger Brit had to come away with a DNF. Their outings were so bad that the two drivers had to see the painful sight of seeing an Alpine zoom past them. This must have hurt, keeping in view where the French team is this year.

However, what’s done is done and from Mercedes’s point of view, it is all going to be about keeping their heads up and giving their all in the remaining two races of the season. George Russell and Lewis Hamilton would ideally want to finish the 2023 campaign with a couple of podium finishes.
