George Russell has been formidable with Mercedes for the past two seasons. With a teammate like seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, one would have expected him to struggle. However, he has been holding his own ground and has been giving tough competition to Hamilton. As he now nears the 100 Grands Prix milestone at Austin next week, Russell has revealed the best race of his career.
He said that the 2021 qualifying at Spa has been the best race of his career. Driving with Williams at that time, the team was greatly struggling with their financials amid the Coronavirus pandemic. In rainy conditions, Russell managed to put an end to their streak of sorrow as he finished P2 in the qualifying. Russell said that that victory holds a special place for him since they had the slowest car on the grid. He claimed that he would cherish that victory for his lifetime.
“Because of the happiness it gave me, that classification with Williams in Spa has no rival, it was incredible, we were the car slowest on the grid for the last two years. That will always stay with me until I die,” Russell told Beyond The Grid. (H&T: SoyMotor)
He also claimed the 2022 Brazil GP to be his best one. Due to that Grand Prix being the sole victory of his career, he also cherishes that race as one of his finest. He said, “It felt incredible because of all the hard work and the pressure that Lewis put me under in the final stretch.”

Russell said that he sees himself in Formula One for at least 15 years more. He said that he is very excited about the sport’s trajectory and how it is evolving. He also praised the F1 management for doing an impeccable job on their end as well.
“The sport is in such a great place. There is a really exciting future. There will be many years to come. 2024 we’re going for it. But I reckon I’ve got a good 15 years left in me,” said Russell.
