The 2024 Australian GP is going to be remembered for varied reasons. Among the various eye-catching moments was George Russell’s high-speed crash on the final lap of the 58-lap race at the Albert Park F1 circuit.
George Russell while chasing the car ahead, lost control of his car and collided with the barriers, he then came back onto the track in a titled position. At that moment, Russell immediately called for a red flag.
He was in a precarious position in the middle of the track and understandably, was immensely worried for his safety.
Red Flag, Red Flag, Red Flag, I'm in the middle of the track, Red Flag. I'm in the middle, Red. Fuc***g hell!!George Russell said via Mercedes team radio

With the 26-year-old’s last lap Australian GP retirement, the Brackley-based Mercedes F1 team has come away from Melbourne with an utterly disappointing double DNF. Lewis Hamilton also retired from the race early on because of an engine issue.
George Russell blames himself for the Australian GP crash
While the jury is out on what exactly caused George Russell to crash at the Australian GP, the Brit has taken the blame on himself. He has made it known that he was at fault for his high-speed crash at Albert Park.
Russell was on his way to finishing in the points-scoring positions before his sudden crash!
My take is, I've gone off and that's on me. I was half a second behind Fernando, and suddenly he came towards me extremely quick. We're off to the stewards, so that's a bit bizarre in this circumstance.George Russell said in his post-race interview

Mercedes was hoping for Russell to bring in decent points after Hamilton retired from the Australian GP. However, things did not pan out as per expectations as the former followed his teammate into retirement. The double DNF has cost the German team dearly, they are now in fifth position in the Constructors Championship with only 26 points.
