George Russell, the Mercedes F1 driver, has talked about his infamous pose from this year’s F1 title sequence. Russell has been in the news quite a lot this year for how his races have panned out, but one other thing he has amassed quite a few headlines for is his cross-legged, hands-on-both-walls pose for the 2023 F1 drivers title.
The pose has become a meme in the F1 world, and many have up and down the paddock have been having their share of fun at George Russell’s expense. He was recently asked to talk about it, and he said, “Well, to give some context on these days, we would go to the studio doing all sorts of different poses. Look down, look up, cross your arms, hands on hips, look away from the camera then look into [the] camera.”
He further added, “After doing a couple of my poses. You know, the standard stuff, arms crossed, hands on hips, the videographer needed 30 seconds to reset. I was pretty tired, so I actually just put my hands on either side of the LED boards to sort of rest and just chill out. Just hung my head down, cos I was a bit tired, [it had] been a long day. And the guy was like, ‘Yeah, I like that, do that again.”
George Russell has made it clear that the pose he did was not something that he had planned. He was a bit tired during the shoot, and to rest to bit, so he simply did the pose in order to rest, and the camera guy, after looking at it, simply asked him to keep doing it as he liked that pose. Considering the attention it has gotten since, it is quite understandable why the camera guy liked Russell’s unique pose.

George Russell has got an uphill task ahead of him in 2023
George Russell, during the 2022 F1 season, was able to get the better of his teammate, Lewis Hamilton. No one gave the young Brit a chance against Hamilton, but despite all the doubters, he was able to do a brilliant season that was good enough to beat his teammate comfortably in the Drivers Championship.
However, when it comes to the ongoing campaign, after three races, Russell is chasing his teammate in the standings and is currently 20 points behind him. Lewis Hamilton has scored 30 points so far for Mercedes, whereas George Russell is stuck on 18 points. This is mostly down to his unfortunate DNF at the Australian Grand Prix.
Taking into account George Russell’s 2022 domination and his being behind his teammate Hamilton after three races, what do you think about his chances during the 2023 F1 campaign? Would he be able to repeat his heroics of last year, or would he succumb to the pressure of chasing Lewis Hamilton in the Championship?
