In recent times, Fernando Alonso has been widely discussed for a variety of reasons. Many rumors have surfaced suggesting that he may leave F1 in the near future. Although Alonso has acknowledged that in order to make decisions for the future, he needs to be certain when it comes to racing.

The Spaniard’s current contract with Aston Martin will come to a close at the end of 2024. However, there is no shortage of options as he has proven his worth multiple times. Last year, Fernando Alonso managed to secure several podiums for the team during the first half of the season. Ex-Ferrari driver, Giancarlo Fisichella, believes that Alonso is far from being done with racing in F1.

During his interview with the media, he said,

I don't think he's going to retire. Knowing him, I think he'll race until he's 50. But it's obvious that he has to have a competitive car, a car to be able to win, like the one last year at the beginning of the season, which was fantastic.

According to Fisichella, the 42-year-old requires a car that’s made for winning, which is why at the moment, he is contemplating his decision. The new Aston Martin challenger still requires some work for the team to get to the front end of the grid. Perhaps, next season, if Alonso gets an opportunity from a team that is willing to offer him a better-performing car, he will continue in the sport for a few more years.

Fernando Alonso’s F1 future is clouded in uncertainty

At the start of the 2024 season, Fernando Alonso opened up about how he couldn’t be more sure about his future in F1. However, as the season proceeds there is uncertainty looming over his thoughts. He initially mentioned how he is in a better shape and place than ever before.

He stated that he wished to continue in the sport as long as he could, but with the performance of the new Aston Martin challenger, it seems as if he’s contemplating his decision.

I enjoy racing, I love racing, it doesn’t matter if I am fighting for a win or for a podium or for P12. I dedicate myself 100% to a race and for a team. To do a commitment for the future, I need to make sure that I can give 100% to that team. If not, it would be [egotistical] just to sign, to be in Formula 1 just for fun. If I’m here, it’s because I want to do well.
