McLaren driver Daniel Ricciardo continues to have complete faith in himself. Going in 2021, the Woking-based racing team had big expectations from the Australian, but he hasn’t been able to live up to their expectations in his stint with them. The 33-year-old driver finds it challenging to manoeuvre the McLaren MCL36.

“Give me a winning car, and I’ll win. I don’t feel I’ve ever left a win on the table. But that’s the challenge that lies ahead of us, with myself and with the team at McLaren. Yeah, that’s the confidence I have in myself and that’s ultimately why I still wake up wanting to do it,” said Ricciardo. Every weekend, he works with his team to make progress, although the strides are now smaller than anyone would expect.

McLaren had thought that the new rules would enable them to close the gap to teams like Red Bull Racing and Ferrari at the beginning of the season, but it seems like a far dream now.   With Alpine, the team is vying for fourth place among the constructors’ standings. Presently, the French rival is four points ahead of McLaren in the championship.

Due to his underwhelming performance, Ricciardo has been rumored with an early exit from McLaren during the previous month. He earned at least 51 points from teammate Lando Norris. Ricciardo might jump to IndyCar, but he said in a statement on Instagram that he isn’t yet prepared for the motorsport’s highest level.

“I know what I’ve got, I know my future. I know my contract. People obviously created questions and their own answers. So it was just setting it straight. Also people that support me it’s like letting them know that still means a lot to me,” concluded the Australian.
