Lawrence Stroll is the owner of the Aston Martin F1 team. The Canadian billionaire is famous for owning a major stake in the Aston Martin brand. Recently, an investigative report by The Guardian revealed that Stroll took around 1,512 flights in his private jet since the beginning of 2022. The Private jets are known to be a significant addition to Global Warming when considered the carbon footprint imprinted on the environment per passenger.
Earlier, Stroll’s team Aston Martin had revealed their goal of reducing their carbon footprint as they suspected the disastrous effects of ignoring Climate Change would begin soon. The company even received a three-star FIA rating for environmental sustainability. In a year where Formula 1 faced increased scrutiny for its environmental impact, Aston Martin positioned itself as an industry leader in driving change. However, a newfound report tarnishes their image completely, revealing that Stroll’s took a giant number of flight rides, some as short as 15 minutes, over just one year.
According to the scathing reports, private jets used by 200 celebrities, CEOs, and billionaires, including Stroll, collectively undertook 44,739 journeys, emitting an estimated 415,518 tonnes of carbon dioxide. Stroll, among the worst offenders, made numerous short trips, notably from his Swiss residence to the Aston Martin HQ in Monaco, and his private island, Mustique. The investigation also points out that other figures in the F1 paddock, such as Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso also own private jets. Lewis Hamilton, who previously owned a private jet, sold it in 2019.
Lawrence Stroll sold team stakes worth $1.09 billion to an American firm Arctos after huge loss in 2022
Recent years have witnessed substantial transformations within the Aston Martin Formula 1 team, formerly recognized as Force India and Racing Point. Currently owned by Canadian businessman Lawrence Stroll, the team underwent a rebranding to Aston Martin in 2021. In a recent development, Stroll has divested a minority stake in the team to an American private equity firm called Arctos.
While specific financial details of the deal remain undisclosed, both Stroll and Arctos emphasized that the collaboration marks the beginning of a long-term partnership rather than a takeover. Stroll expressed his enthusiasm about the buyout.
I am delighted to welcome Arctos Partners as a new partner and minority shareholder in the Aston Martin Formula 1 Team. Arctos see the potential and value of this project as we continue to build a world-class Formula 1 team.
Amid this development, Aston Martin is enjoying a remarkably successful season, securing eight podium finishes during the 2023 campaign. As the team navigates this partnership with Arctos, the implications for Aston Martin’s future trajectory in Formula 1 are unknown. It will be interesting to see how the future turns out for Stroll and the team.
