Nico Hulkenberg since returning to the pinnacle of motor racing has been in sensational form. He has impressed people up and down the F1 paddock and the Haas Team Principal, Guenther Steiner has spoken very highly of him. The Italian-American has revealed that contract negotiants are at an advanced stage with Hulkenberg.
Guenther Steiner and Co. are extremely pleased with how Nico Hulkenberg has performed in the 2023 season so far and have got utmost faith in him. The 35-year-old despite making a return to F1 after several years, has been able to put the VF-23 through the wringer and score some valuable points for the team.
Steiner has kept track of the progress of Hulkenberg at Haas and while talking about the same ahead of the Hungarian GP, he said, “We’ve already talked about it [signing a contract with Hulkenberg]. But it’s nicer when you can do it in person than by phone or video call. It won’t take us long.”
“He’s [Gene Haas] coming there [to Spa]. Hopefully, we can announce it as soon as possible. We’re happy with him.” The 58-year-old has made it known that an announcement regarding the contract extension of Nico Hulkenberg is not too far away and could take place in the upcoming weeks.

While Guenther Steiner has indicated that Nico Hulkenberg’s contract extension is just around the corner, he has admitted that Haas is still undecided regarding Kevin Magnussen. The Dane has not been able to put in consistent performances and has come under a bit of pressure to secure his seat for next year.
Steiner while stressing on Magnussen’s F1 prospects, added, “We’ll have to see that. Logically, Kevin also knows that he has to catch up with Nico. Nico is just better at the moment. Kevin has no problem admitting that either. Hopefully, we can announce our driver pairing soon.” There are still several races left in the ongoing campaign.
Taking into account everything that Guenther Steiner has said about his drivers, it is going to be fascinating to see how Kevin Magnussen would deal with his teammate’s contract extension announcement. If the Dane wants to secure a seat comfortably for next year, he would have to start putting in good performances from the upcoming Hungarian GP onward.
