Gunther Steiner became one of the most loved figures in the F1 paddock in recent years. The Italian-American’s personality was loved by fans and viewers of the Netflix docuseries, ‘Drive to Survive.’ Subsequently, the 58-year-old released a book on his team’s journey during the 2022 F1 season last year. Now, despite being ousted from the American team, Steiner has revealed that he is working on a second book.
Ghostwriter James Hogg worked with Guenther Steiner for the first book, ‘Surviving to Drive.’ This book has sold over 150,000 copies so far in 12 different languages. Moreover, a paperback issue will be published in the UK in March this year. The book allowed fans to understand Steiner’s leadership from the inside.
Gunther Steiner claimed that he and Hogg have been working on a second book for some time now. The 58-year-old highlighted that this issue was planned before he departed from Haas F1. Subsequently, the upcoming book would have a new focus. As it could potentially focus on Steiner’s exit from the team he helped establish in the first place.
We are working on the second book at the moment. That was planned already before. Now, obviously, the story maybe changes a little bit!Guenther Steiner told Motorsport.com
Guenther Steiner claims off-track activities were not a distraction
Critics have argued that Steiner’s activities off-track including his predominant role in ‘Drive to Survive’ and his book might’ve been a distraction from his actual job as Team Principal. However, the 58-year-old has reckoned that people have overreacted about this topic. As Guenther Steiner claimed that these roles did not distract him from his daily job at Haas F1.
I think people are overrating that, how much distraction that is. Because it isn't actually a lot of distraction from the daily job.
Steiner highlighted that he would only have a couple of sponsor appearances every race weekend. Moreover, the 58-year-old emphasized that the ghostwriter does the writing part of the book which in turn reduces the distraction.
Guenther Steiner partakes in two sessions for his upcoming book at this moment with James Hogg. One on Tuesday and one on Friday, both lasting only half an hour each. Moreover, Steiner is even working on a TV show with CBS.
Certainly, Guenther Steiner is planning to enjoy his time away from the F1 paddock. The 58-year-old will be spending time with his family in the coming months before he tries to return to the grid. Fans would be eagerly waiting for Steiner to publish his second book which could detail his exit from the Haas F1 team.
