Gunther Steiner, Mick Schumacher

Gunther Steiner runs the Haas F1 team. The Italian is known to be a rather brute team boss. Gunther publicly expressed his frustrations over Mick Schumacher’s lack of progress in 2022. Subsequently, Schumacher was replaced by his fellow countryman Nico Hulkenberg. Steiner was a staunch critic of Mick’s incident-prone two F1 seasons and further shed light on the monetary cost for the same.

The 58-year-old will be launching his book, ‘Survive to Drive’ this month. The book deals with the struggles faced by Gunther Steiner and Haas as a whole in 2022. In an extract from the book published by The Times, Steiner states that Mick Schumacher cost Haas over $2 Million in damages in 2022. The German’s impact at the Monaco GP alone cost the American team $700,000.

Gunther Steiner describes his anger in his book over this incident. He wrote, “It happened on the f**king in-lap.” The Haas boss was furious over Mick’s incident as the German ended up in the barriers while bringing his car back into the pits. Steiner continued, “On the in-lap! Sure, it was very wet out there on the track, but nobody else managed to write off a car while they were driving back to the pits.”

Steiner described how the money spent on repair bills could’ve been used to employ more staff on the team. This, in turn, would’ve helped Haas to improve its F1 prospects. Gunther Steiner concluded, “It’s just f**king ridiculous. How many people could we employ with $700,000?”

The Haas Team Principal was unhappy with the way the team was forced to repair its cars constantly. He stated, “We lost a car after five minutes and now have to build another.” Moreover, Gunther Steiner was clear that he had no confidence left in Mick Schumacher as the German failed to keep the car intact. The 58-year-old explained, “I cannot have a driver who I am not confident can take a car around safely on a slow lap.” It is no wonder that Gunther swiftly ousted Mick in favor of Nico Hulkenberg for 2023. Hulkenberg has had a rather clean season so far.

Thus, Gunther Steiner’s book will delve into the atmosphere of the Haas F1 team in 2022. The 58-year-old grew tired of the reckless driving of Mick Schumacher. Subsequently, Steiner bit the bullet for 2023 after the Italians had enough of the expensive repair costs. This book will certainly spark further controversy regarding Gunther’s treatment of Mick in the coming weeks.
