Nico Hulkenberg replaced Mick Schumacher at Haas at the beginning of the 2023 season. The partnership between Hulkenberg and the American team has not worked out too well as the driver has only managed to score a total of a mere 9 points in 20 Grands Prix weekends. Meanwhile, The team led by Gunther Steiner has been suffering the most out of any other Formula 1 team as Haas ranks in 10th position the last position in the Constructor’s Standings.

Unlike McLaren, Williams, and AlphaTauri, Haas have been the only other team along with Alfa Romeo, who have not managed to improve their performance throughout the 2023 season. Nico Hulkenberg, recently commented on Haas’ woes as he discussed the upgrades to the car that haven’t resulted in an advancement to the car.

Nico Hulkenberg aired his complaints,as reported by F1ingenerale.

We are paying a price for not having made updates, for not having found the performance. We hope it is a wake-up call for all those involved in the sector because at this rate we cannot compete in F1.

This statement reflects a fracture in the relationship between the German driver and the American team. Haas will be working hard to get back on track after their dismal performance in 2023 while Nico Hulkenberg will be, possibly, scouting other teams since comments like these don’t appear to land well when working with a certain Gunther Steiner.

Guenther Steiner had asked his team to be optimistic ahead of the US GP

The 2023 season has been a challenging one for Haas, with the American team only managing to secure points at five out of the 20 Grand Prix weekends so far. Their most recent point came from Kevin Magnussen’s 10th-place finish at the Singapore GP. Team principal Guenther Steiner had shared his thoughts on the team’s future.

Steiner had previously called on his team to remain optimistic and look forward to better days. In an interview with Pitdebrief.com, he talked about it.

We know our car, and that we’re struggling at the moment in the race, everyone is well aware of this. Hats off to the team as they keep their heads up and keep on pushing as they know better days are ahead.

Steiner also discussed the home Grand Prix for Haas at the Circuit of the Americas and the upgrades the team was anticipating for the weekend at the time. He mentioned that they’re not entirely sure how effective the upgrades will be, but they are expecting positive results.

As the results and Nico Hulkenberg’s comments have reflected, the upgrades failed to deliver good fortunes to the team. Moreover, Steiner emphasized that the team is moving in the right direction for next year and that this season is a valuable learning experience for the upcoming season. Haas has two home Grands Prix this year, and with the Las Vegas GP fast approaching in November, the team is eager to put their 2023 struggles behind them and deliver strong performances in front of their home fans.
