Hannah Schmitz gives out a Red Bull masterclass that got Max Verstappen a win in Hungary

Hannah Schmitz, the mastermind behind all the Red Bull strategies, gifted her team another victory in Hungary. Hungaroring is considered a track with not many overtaking opportunities. With no passing things comes down to the team playing with the best strategy, this time it was Red Bull that played a masterclass with not so “the classic” tyre strategy.

With the race starting having cool temperatures and expected rain anytime, it was a brilliant call by the teams to start on soft tyres. But with Max and Sergio starting from P10 and P11, mediums or hard would have been a better option. With the long-lasting tyres, the drivers could stick around with the track for much longer trying out one stopper ahead in the race. This is a very cliche strategy that teams understand. With a mastermind in the team, Red Bull tried something very risky and out of the box. They also started the race on softs with a plan to have a two-stopper.

Hannah Schmitz was worried about the soft tyres till when the tyres held on. But with icy tracks giving struggles to the cars in a soft grip, it was a very good call she made for her team.

“Really our concern was whether we can make enough progress in that first stint to make it worth it, but obviously both drivers made great progress,” Hannah said regarding the first stint in soft tyres.

Ferrari and Red Bull
Max Verstappen won the Hungarian GP

Ferrari were the favourites entering the Hungaroring with hopes to bounce back from a disappointing result in the French Grand Prix. Ferrari managed a P2 and P3 start and both the cars looked on pace running in the mediums on the first stint. But things really changed after they decided to go for Hards as their second stint commodity.

“I guess Ferrari at that point, because they started on the medium tyres and used two set of Mediums, only really had the Hard or the soft tyres [remaining],” justified Hannah.

Ferrari is now 100 points behind Red Bull with Charles 80 points behind the Championship leader Max. 2022 as a title-winning year, won’t really be possible. Red Bull is directly looking into the eyes of the world title.
