Has Yuki Tsunoda rescued his F1 future after Honda-Red Bull’s new partnership deal?

Yuki Tsunoda

Yuki Tsunoda is currently without a seat for the 2023 Formula One season but it is the ongoing belief that Red Bull and Honda’s new deal could potentially come to the rescue of Tsunoda for next year’s seat at AlphaTauri.

Earlier in the season, it was announced that Pierre Gasly has signed a contract extension with AlphaTauri for 2023 as the second seat at Red Bull is under wraps at least until 2024.

While Gasly’s future in the sport is secured, it is not the same case with Yuki Tsunoda. The 22-year-old has improved his performance from last year but he still on occasion has shown a rash style of driving for which he came under heavy criticism during 2021.

Helmut Marko has previously admitted that he has been impressed with the exploits of the Japanese driver this season but has also warned him to get his temper under control. Tsunoda is considered the “Problem Child” in the Red Bull pool of drivers and this year a personal psychologist was also appointed to get his temper issues under check.

Moreover, AlphaTauri Team Principal Franz Tost has admitted that Yuki has an unorthodox personality but believes he has got the skill and speed to stay in the sport at least for another year.

Yuki Tsunoda since the start of 2016 has been properly backed by the Honda group and on the back of it, he was able to win the 2018 Japanese Formula 4 Championship.

Recently, it was announced that Honda is going to support Red Bull power trains till 2025 and this is the reason why Tsunoda’s chances of getting a new contract are looking very good.

At the moment, rumors are swirling about a sponsorship deal between Red Bull and Honda that will give the latter more influence over deciding who sits in AlphaTauri seats and this potential deal could bode well for Yuki Tsunoda.

Honda wants a Japanese driver in the sport and tech expert Albert Fabrega has reported that the new deal between Red Bull and Honda is also going to include the contract of Tsunoda.

Red Bull has got a huge stable of drivers that includes stars like Liam Lawson, Jehan Daruvala, and also a Japanese driver named Ayumu Isawa who has done well this year in F2.

There are many options on the table for 2023 but with the new deal, it is looking very much likely that Yuki Tsunoda would be able to extend his contract with AlphaTauri for at least another year.
