“He has to improve without training,” Helmut Marko pins hopes on Max Verstappen to bounce back after a dramatic day of practice

Marko Helmut and Max Verstappen

Max Verstappen, after an ultra successful season, has not able be to match up to his standards for no fault of his own. It started with that opening race in Bahrain which saw him lock horns with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc but eventually had to retire out of the race due to a fuel pump issue. But the reigning world champion was able to put it behind him and registered his first win of the season in Saudi Arabia.

When we thought that was a one-off, he again had to retire out the Australian GP due to engine issues which left him way behind the championship leader. But Max being Max, cut that lead to 27 points with a flawless weekend in Ferrari’s backyard. That was seen to be the end of Red Bull and Max Verstappen’s troubles and the rise of a resurgent world champion. But it feels like it’s impossible for Red Bull to be consistent.

The circus of wheels has reached Miami to host the city’s first Grand Prix. The hype around the race has been unreal as all the drivers look excited to give their best. But Max Verstappen wasn’t able to do so after his second practice session was cut short following a hydraulic issue which saw flames coming out of his engine and which in turn made it impossible for him to steer the car.

We all know how much a practice session matters to test out the tyres and the track and more so when it’s a completely new track. After a disastrous session, Helmut Marko said, “Thank God we had Perez. He drove a lot and his times were promising.

We now have to transfer that to Max’s car. Max now has to be Max and improve without training.”

“Everyone saw that Perez had no problem with the temperature,” as reported by gpblog.

Max Verstappen and Red Bull will have to pull the rabbit out of the hat on Saturday’s qualifying if they want to have a fighting chance against Charles Leclerc and a resurgent Mercedes.
