‘He is a very talented driver’: Franz Tost feels that Yuki Tsunoda is proof of the Red Bull academy’s strength
Yuki Tsunoda
Yuki Tsunoda has been improving day in and day out with his performance in Formula 1. 2021 was a rookie season for Yuki with not a particularly amazing performance. Though the 2022 season has been great for the young Japanese, he has been matched up to Pierre Gasly a lot better, and has helped Alpha Tauri score a bunch of important points.
This improvement marked by the head officials of the team got Yuki another year in Formula 1 and a cumulative of three years. This is due to the impression of talent Yuki has brought inside the team and the mind of Franz Tost, team principal of Alpha Tauri. The Austrian talks about the improvement Yuki has shown and is entrusted with the car for next season.
Franz Tost said on Yuki Tsunoda: “As we’ve seen since he joined us last year, Yuki is a very talented driver and has improved a lot this season. The pace he has shown recently is clear evidence of a steep learning curve, which proves he deserves a seat in F1, and I still expect some strong results from him in the last six races of 2022.”

Franz Tost thanked Helmut Marko for the talent at Red Bull Academy
Franz Tost appreciated Helmut Marko for the impenetrable talents he has been bringing to Red Bull and Alpha Tauri in recent years. Yuki joins the likes of Sebastian Vettel, Daniel Ricciardo, Carlos Sainz and Max Verstappen to get into Formula 1 from the Red Bull Junior program. Though he has not always been up to his mark, Tost says it takes about three years for a driver to get used to F1.
Yuki Tsunoda was often criticized last year for his aggressiveness, and sometimes lackluster performances but he has improved by quite a big margin, and has also recently secured his seat at the team for 2023.
“It’s a testament to Dr Marko and his driver programme that we’re able to bring these young talents up from the junior categories and develop them. I’d like to join Yuki in thanking Red Bull and AlphaTauri, as well as Honda, for their continuous support and for allowing him to stay with us for another year.” added Tost.
This year has not been nearly as good for AlphaTauri as the last, and even if he has improved, Tsunoda is behind his teammate Pierre Gasly with 12 points to his name. Though he is improving the standards this season has been huge, Yuki is just 16th on the grid. AlphaTauri would want more from the young driver in the upcoming last six races.
