“He is definitely ready to win,” Zak Brown showers heaps of praise on Lando Norris

Zak Brown and Lando Norris

Zak Brown, McLaren’s CEO, in the recent F1 Nation Podcast, has praised the young McLaren driver Lando Norris who most recently bagged a podium at the Imola GP, which nobody would’ve thought to be possible after the start they endured in Bahrain.

The CEO of the team, said“He is, in my opinion, as good as anyone in Formula 1 – unbelievably fast. He’s, I think, as far as pure natural talent, I think he has as much as anyone in Formula 1,” while emphasizing on how few mistakes the young Briton makes.

Lando recently signing a long term contract with the team was criticized and seen as a poor decision, but the driver has defended it. And so did Zak Brown. Zak believes the driver is just short of a car that can help him. He said, as quoted by the GP Blog, “He is definitely ready to win, now we just need to put him in a position to win.”

McLaren’s start to the 2022 season wasn’t as pleasing as anyone would’ve thought. What looked like a beast in the pre-season testings disappointed everyone in Bahrain. With Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo both looking off the pace, things didn’t look too good for the team. And according to Zak Brown, it reminded him of the team’s days of 2017, when they finished the season with just 30 points. But, this year they changed things fast, and now they have a podium before the fifth round of the season.

Speaking of the thoughts he had after Bahrain, Zak said, “I left Bahrain with the same feeling as in 2017 all over again. Then I thought: we’ve spent four, five years making improvements since 2017, how did we end up back here?”

Now, McLaren seems to be progressing at a good speed. With its drivers finishing P5-P6 in Australia, they’ve infused a new enthusiasm in everyone associated with the team. And this weekend in Miami, maybe one of the two drivers can surprise us, who knows.
