Sergio Perez has been having the season of his lifetime after finishing 2nd in Spain and then winning the Monaco Grand Prix next, he became the first ever Mexican to achieve a win in Monaco. After gaining all of these points, he came closer in the fight for the championship with 110 points, only a little bit behind Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen, the two contenders for the driver’s championship. There have been many speculations about Checo being a potential contender for the championship, however, this seems difficult as he is the number 2 driver for the team after Max Verstappen.

After a statement from Christian Horner, the team principal, stating that both Checo and Max are Red Bull drivers and have the same chance at the championship, the talks about Checo defeating Max are rising higher than they could be. Damon Hill, former F1 driver and World Champion, recently stated that Sergio could put in a “mid-season spurt” to get into the fight for the World Championship, and then we could be lucky enough to see a three-way battle fight for the championship.

In his statement about the same, Damon Hill states that Sergio Perez has been closing up on Leclerc and Verstappen in the championship rivalry. In some ways, it’s just made it more of a close title fight for the rest of the season. We’ve had changes in form, so it was unusual to see Sergio ahead of Max on the grid [in Monaco],” PlanetF1 quoted.

“Sergio likes Baku, which is the next race. You might find Sergio putting on a bit of a mid-season spurt and attack on the championship.”

There is a potential three-way rivalry building up as Sergio Perez is at 110 points now after winning Monaco, only 6 points behind Charles Leclerc, who stands 2nd at 6 points, and Checo’s teammate, Max Verstappen leads the table at 125 points.
