“He should stay loyal to his own team,” Chelsea’s Paul Canoville flags Lewis Hamilton’s action as disrespectful
Amidst the rumors of Lewis Hamilton pledging 10 million pounds as a part of a consortium of investors, including Tennis superstar Serena Williams and others, raking up a stake in the English football club Chelsea, Paul Canoville, the club’s first black player, has questioned the F1 driver’s involvement at the club’s inclusion program and has termed it as disrespectful.
Lewis has earlier confessed that he is an Arsenal supporter, who are the city rivals of Chelsea. He said that he was forced to support Arsenal by his sister, and that has stuck with him since.
Paul wrote on Twitter, “Don’t anyone get me wrong, I am a huge fan of both Serena and Lewis. Both Williams sisters have been phenomenal achievers and proud advocates of civil rights issues. Ticks a big box with me personally, of course.”
He added his criticism for Hamilton, saying, “As far as playing a role in developing anti-racism, diversity and inclusion programmes for Chelsea though; I feel this is disrespectful of our own supporter base.”
Paul Canoville questions Lewis Hamilton’s loyalty to Arsenal
The British driver has been seen in Arsenal colors plenty of times and has supported them for the longest of time. This loyalty has, however, come into question after his reported bid for acquiring a stake in Chelsea after the Russian Oligarch owner of the club Roman Abramovich ceded its control.
Paul has questioned Lewis’ loyalty after the driver publicly said he was bullied into supporting Arsenal. He targeted Serena Williams, too, for her actions. In his tweet, he said, “Serena is on record as saying she supports Real Madrid and while I know Lewis has now suggested he was bullied into supporting Arsenal by his sister, he is an Arsenal fan and that’s a fact.”
He concluded by saying, “I will always support Lewis Hamilton in everything he does in F1, he is the greatest driver ever in my opinion and as with Serena, she is a phenomenal icon for black achievement and civil rights. With football though, I think he should stay loyal to his own team.”
Earlier the Dutch driver Max Verstappen had also teased Lewis Hamilton over the matter of acquiring a stake in Chelsea. Max, too, pointed out his rival’s loyalty to Arsenal and said he wouldn’t do the same if PSV(the club he supports) and Ajax(PSC’s rivals) were involved.
