Max Verstappen has added Nico Rosberg to the list of his worldwide fans. The reigning world champion showed the world what he is all about after a disappointing result at the Australian GP. Max Verstappen’s didn’t get off to the best of starts in Imola sprint as he lost track position to his nemesis, Charles Leclerc, after bagging his pole of the season in Friday’s qualifying. But that was again down to Red Bull who failed to sync his gear box.

This meant Max Verstappen was trailing Charles Leclerc going into the first corner. From that point on, it was a different ball game as Max Verstappen was playing the chasing game.

We all know the superior edge of the Red Bull over the Ferrari on the straights. But when you add DRS to that for good measure, it just becomes impossible to defend as we saw in Bahrain. So it was crucial for Leclerc to keep Max away from the detection zone.

The Monegasque driver was able to do that for the best part of the sprint with the gap hovering around that 1-1.5 seconds mark. But, as got into the tail end of the race, some graining seemed to appearing on Charles Leclerc’s front right tyre which allowed the relentless Max Verstappen to close the gap and make full use of DRS to force his way to the front.

Nico Rosberg was all praise for the current world champion. Speaking to Sky Sports, he said, “Verstappen [was] just typical, so relentless.”

“He’s one of those guys that you least want to see in your rear-view mirrors, getting bigger and bigger, because you just know that guy is gonna attack, absolutely giving it 100 per cent.

“That’s what he did again, with a brilliant move there, which was fantastic to see,” as reported by racingnews365.

Max Verstappen’s pressure was relentless as he refused to be denied by Charles Leclerc yet again. But the work is only half done and he would want to finish it on race day by winning the Imola GP.
