Felipe Massa has sent shockwaves in motorsports since he decided to have a tussle in the court around the verdict of the 2008 F1 World Championship. Several esteemed personalities have already shared their opinion on it, and the Red Bull team adviser, Helmut Marko, has admitted that he would like to see Massa being crowned as the Champion in place of Lewis Hamilton.

The 2008 F1 season took place a long time ago, and several years have passed since then. The tightly fought season made many headlines back for all the wrong reasons, and after so many years, Felipe Massa has once again brought it into the limelight and has got the whole world talking about it.

Helmut Marko was recently asked to give his verdict on it, and while backing Felipe Massa, he told Kronen Zeitung, “If there are new facts, the matter can be opened up. And then the chances for Massa aren’t so bad. The only question is, where would we be if we had to re-evaluate many other races where there were incidents?

It was terrible to see how Massa celebrated winning the title for 20 seconds in Brazil, and then suddenly everything was gone. I would like him to be awarded this title – and Mr. Hamilton, for whom records aren’t that important, would then have one less.” The 80-year-old comments are sure to turn a few eyebrows.

While Helmut Marko has made it known that in his opinion, Felipe Massa should be named the 2008 F1 World Champion, the latter’s lawyers recently admitted that they will approach Lewis Hamilton for his support in the name of sporting integrity. They said, “He is an important ambassador for the sport and has always defended sporting integrity. He is an honorary Brazilian citizen and very well-liked by Brazilians, so I hope he will support us.”

Felipe Massa and Co. are confident about getting Lewis Hamilton’s support in their ongoing tussle. However, considering everything, there are no guarantees that Hamilton would be willing to help them in their cause. Ferrari is also yet to openly show their support and because of this, the Brit might resist.

Moreover, the 38-year-old has got a big job on his hands during the ongoing 2023 F1 season. Mercedes is in a tough fight against the lights of Aston Martin and Ferrari for second place in the Constructors Championship and Hamilton really can’t afford to have his attention on something else with only 7-8 races remaining in the season.
