Red Bull turned heads with the new RB-20. The 2024 challenger from Milton Keynes follows a radical approach that has surprised many in the paddock. Max Verstappen completed over 140 laps during the first day of pre-season testing. Now, Red Bull Motorsport Consultant Dr. Helmut Marko has revealed that the team is delighted with its initial runs in testing.
The 80-year-old expressed his satisfaction with the RB-20’s first impression. Marko claimed that the drastic concept of the new car worked as anticipated by Milton Keynes. This was the most important aspect of testing as mentioned by the Austrian previously. Moreover, Helmut Marko reckoned that Adrian Newey and his engineers would be prepared to further develop the car.
Very, very, very impressive. The concept works. That was the most important thing. The car is reacting and we can already think about how we can develop it further. It looks good.Helmut Marko told nl.motorsport.com
The Red Bull advisor even pointed out that Ferrari was facing many more issues than the Austrian team. Moreover, Marko reckoned that McLaren was nervous when it came to on-track performance for the MCL38. Certainly, Milton Keynes seems to be happy with its on-track running with the RB-20 so far.
In terms of tire performance, Ferrari again seems to have more problems than we do. The McLaren also seems a bit more nervous.
Is the Red Bull RB-20 set to dominate in 2024?
Max Verstappen and Red Bull have dominated the sport in recent years. The Dutch driver has expressed his desire to claim a fourth F1 championship this season. The initial runs of the RB-20 certainly seem to be in favor of Milton Keynes despite a more risky design approach taken by the team.
Red Bull Team Principal praised his engineers for taking a radical approach with its 2024 challenger instead of simply evolving last year’s car. Moreover, Sergio Perez labeled the new design as a ‘brave’ direction by Milton Keynes as it aims to continue its domination at the pinnacle of motorsport.
Certainly, Helmut Marko and the Red Bull garage seem pleased with the RB-20’s on-track data so far. Milton Keynes has high hopes for the new car as it takes an ambitious direction. As such, fans would be looking forward to seeing how the 2024 challenger performs in the Bahrain season-opener in just a week.
