Helmut Marko is the director of Red Bull’s Formula 1 team, AlphaTauri and Red Bull Racing. Marko has advised Red Bull in motorsports since the late 80s, beginning the driver development program for the team to steer drivers like Sebastian Vettel to the sport.
Marko has since played a major role in the team’s functioning, handling most driver negotiations and management. However, after a recent power struggle at Red Bull involving conflicting interests with Christian Horner, Marko’s future at the team looked uncertain. After a meeting with Red Bull officials, Marko has finally made it optimistically clear that his future at Red Bull looked good.
Yes, in a positive sense, everything is continuing as planned.
Marko is possibly the longest-serving member of Red Bull’s motorsports program, running the team RSM Marko under the name Red Bull junior team in F3 and Formula 3000 as early as 1989. Marko is also a former Formula One driver himself, competing in the 1971 and 1972 seasons.

Helmut Marko clarifies Sergio Perez and Liam Lawson 2025 prospects
The Red Bull seats are highly sought after, as the champion team currently has the strongest car on the grid by a huge margin. Both Red Bull and AlphaTauri seats are filled for the 2024 season but this will change drastically as only Max Verstappen is contracted to continue driving in 2025.
Helmut Marko, director of both teams, has warned Sergio Perez to improve his performance to retain his drive. Now that Liam Lawson and Daniel Ricciardo are both waiting in the wings, Perez will have to improve for Red Bull to consider keeping him.
Marko said Perez would complete the 2024 season with Red Bull, but the 2025 seat would be up for grabs. Meanwhile, Marko said Liam Lawson is a promising talent but will have to prove himself at a few more occasions to earn a Red Bull or AlphaTauri seat in 2025.
As of now he[Perez] will fulfill his contract until the end of 2024, then we’ll see.Helmut Marko said, as reported by sbnation.com
[Lawson] should at least drive a few more races so that we can see where his potential really lies.
Daniel Ricciardo is also in the mix for the 2025 driver market, and the Australian put in some great performances in 2023. A former Red Bull driver himself, Ricciardo could be a major threat to Perez in the tussle for the Red Bull seat in 2025.
