Helmut Marko gives a shocking update on Sergio Perez’s future with Red Bull following his disastrous qualifying result

Red Bull F1 team advisor Helmut Marko

At the start of the 2023 Formula 1 season, Sergio Perez seemed confident and competitive enough to fight for the World championship this year. The Mexican showed immense promise as he went on to win in Saudi Arabia and in Azerbaijan. Following a tight knit battle in the standings between him and teammate Max Verstappen, much was expected from Perez but alas, things haven’t gone as planned.

With the British Grand Prix, taking place this weekend, all eyes were on Red Bull and especially on their drivers. Max Verstappen on one hand has become an unbeatable force all throughout the 10 rounds that have taken place so far. The Dutchman shined brightly in today’s qualifying session as he went on to grab his fifth pole position in a row. On the other hand, Sergio Pérez had yet another qualifying that he would like to forget about.

Red Bull team advisor, Dr Helmut Marko was not at all happy as the Mexican driver failed to get out of Q1 yet again. Perez has been under a lot of pressure from Redbull to perform. When asked about finding a possible replacement for the Mexican, here is what Marko said to Sky Sports F1. “There is no one available who can replace Perez. He performs well in the races, in contrast to Nyck de Vries,” he explained.

“Perez’s weakness in qualifying. He has to have that under control,” Helmut Marko further stated. Christian Horner had also defend Checo previously at Austria where the team was in a similar situation. “Everybody is fully behind Checo, so any talk of him being replaced is wide off the mark,” he stated to SkySportsF1. It seems like the Mexican still has an ounce of support from Red Bull considering the whole situation at hand.

It is inevitable that Sergio Perez will have to do something in order to save his seat or else it would be an awkward phone call with Christian Horner. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see what Perez will do to salvage his weekend. With Max Verstappen on pole position, fans will be hoping to see Checo get into the top runner’s mix as soon as possible during sunday’s race.
