Helmut Marko intends to stay at Red Bull till he gets the “you are fired” call

Helmut Marko
Helmut Marko the Red Bull team adviser has been associated with Formula One for a long time and the Austrian has recently confirmed that he wants to continue with the Red Bull team for years to come and has no intention of leaving.
Helmut Marko got his first taste of the sport way back in 1971 and 1972 when he took part in 10 Grand Prix events in the pinnacle of motorsports. Moreover, in 1999, he was made in charge of the Red Bull junior development program.
The 79-year-old has been Red bull’s adviser since 2005 and is still carrying on with the team in that capacity. Marko sees Red Bull as his family and wants to continue for as long as possible.
Helmut Marko is fully focused on his role as the Red Bull adviser and has indicated that he is not going anywhere unless the hierarchy at the Milton-Keynes-based team decides to fire him.
While talking about his long stay at Red Bull, Marko said, “It’s all about passion and I’m very passionate about it. I love the sport and I love winning. None of my activities are stressful for me. I feel good, and as long as I can keep doing this job well and not get fired, I will!”

The Austrian is also in charge of the junior team and makes decisions as to who is ready to take a step up to Formula One and vice-versa.

Helmut Marko: Personally I like to call it the Verstappen project

Helmut Marko in his long tenure has seen many drivers come and go from Red Bull but one driver that he believes has got everything in his arsenal is none other than the 2021 World Champion Max Verstappen.
While stressing about the Dutchman Marko has said, “It’s true. Personally, I call it ‘the Verstappen project’. After he won, you could feel a great relief in the whole family. By winning, they had achieved what they had wanted for a long time and had achieved their goal.“
“Max has always had to deal with a lot of pressure from Jos. He [Verstappen sr.] still puts pressure on him, but now a little less. All this has made him more mature. He is 24 years old and a young world champion. The rest is just a bonus.”
Max Verstappen is currently leading the 2022 Formula One Championship and given what Marko has said, it seems some of the credit for the Dutchman’s success also goes to father Jos Verstappen.

Max after 11 rounds is on 208 points and has got Charles Leclerc on his tail who is on 170 points. The first half of the season is done and with only one half remaining, it will be fascinating to see how Verstappen deals with the pressure that would be on him from the upcoming French Grand Prix onwards.
