Helmut Marko is AFRAID of Ferrari’s pace, believes Charles Leclerc could become a problem for Red Bull in the Canadian GP
Helmut Marko feels Red Bull would be properly challenged during the Canadian GP.
Helmut Marko and Charles Leclerc
Helmut Marko, the Red Bull team adviser, has made it known that after keenly observing the cars during yesterday’s FP2 session, he is worried about Ferrari’s pace at the Gilles-Villeneuve F1 circuit. He has acknowledged the impressive outing of the Mercedes duo as well but considers the Maranello-based team a bigger threat.
Red Bull has been extremely dominant in the season and has not faced much competition from its rivals. However, looking at how Friday panned out for the team in comparison to the strong outing of Ferrari, Aston Martin, and Mercedes, there is every chance that the Canadian GP is not going to be a straightforward affair for them.
Helmut Marko understands the threat of its rival teams. While especially acknowledging Ferrari after the session, he said, “Mercedes was “significantly faster, but I’m afraid that Ferrari will be even stronger here. You could see that. They were out at about the same time as we were. And Leclerc’s long run, in particular, was very impressive.”
“We’re all expecting this 100th win and apparently that caused extra pressure. So we were a bit surprised that we were a bit off internally, especially in terms of handling.” Looking at the comments of Helmut Marko, it is quite evident that everyone at Red Bull is a bit on edge and sees Charles Leclerc as the biggest threat to the two Red Bull drivers.
Red Bull have got a challenging task on their hands during the Canadian GP
The 2023 Formula 1 campaign has been about the dominance of the Red Bull F1 team. Max Verstappen and Co. have bashed its competition, but things are looking shaky for the team heading into the Canadian GP. For starters, Ferrari and the other top teams have made a huge step up, and secondly, the element of rain is also expected to be in play during the race.
This is probably the first time in the ongoing campaign that teams other than Red Bull have been able to make their presence felt at the front end of the grid. Moreover, looking at the upturn in form, drivers like Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc would try to make the most of the opportunity and secure a rare win.
Considering everything discussed above, would any Max Verstappen and Co. be able to secure another race win for the Milton-Keynes-based team? Or do you see someone from the other teams rising to the challenge to claim the victory at this Sunday’s Canadian Grand Prix?
