The current Formula 1 grid has varying dynamics when it comes to their drivers line-up. Some teams hold both drivers in equal regard and encourage them to battle it out. But others have an established number one driver, leading the way for the team. Red Bull is known to be one such team, with their superstar Max Verstappen paving the way to glory.

This has been the case for several years, Sergio Perez was recruited in compliance with this dynamic. But now his ambitions have grown, and he wants to challenge for the title. Checo’s contract is currently set to expire in 2024. And there have been rumors about him being replaced amidst his challenge for the championship.

Red Bull consultant and advisor Helmut Marko addressed the Mexican’s future while speaking to Motorsport-Total.com. He said, “Perez has signed a two-year contract, and that also includes [20]24. And with the performance that he delivers, there is nothing to be said against it – on the contrary. I think we have one of the strongest driver pairings.” Marko and the team are clearly more than satisfied with Checo’s prowess.

Marko has reiterated his confidence in Red Bull’s driver lineup. He has reassured the paddock and fans alike that Red Bull does not have plans to replace the Mexican in 2024.

Despite currently trailing in the championship, Sergio Perez won’t be discouraged by the setback he encountered at this stage of the year. The team achieved four 1-2 finishes in the initial five races. However, Max Verstappen’s victory in Australia created a significant gap between them.

Red Bull find themselves in an ideal scenario with their two drivers. Sergio Perez possesses a particular penchant that shines on street courses, particularly in tight and challenging situations. This unique ability he brings to the team adds significant value. Hence, it is a positive aspect for Red Bull.

However, if Verstappen and Perez continue continue to have close on-track battles, the stakes might become higher later in the year. Their current amicable relationship could potentially deteriorate, with the team suffering the consequences. They are so far ahead of the rest of the grid, that their greatest adversary is themselves.

The Bulls are performing exceptionally well in every aspect and are consistently making correct decisions. The challenge for the rest of the grid lies in discovering ways to cope with their dominance. It will be intriguing to see which teams can rise to the occasion and disrupt this level of domination.

Red Bull are comfortably placed first in the Constructors’ standings. They have amassed 224 points in five races; clinical beyond measure. They have a 122 point cushion between themselves and Aston Martin. It gives them ample breathing room to allow the likes of Perez and Verstappen to battle it out for the drivers’ title.
