Helmut Marko the Red Bull team advisor has recently talked about the new proposal of F1 regarding the budget cap and feels that it is not enough considering the level of increase in inflation since the start of the Ukraine-Russia conflict.

The 79-year-old believes that it has become immensely difficult for teams to operate under the set budget and wants them to improve the solution that they are proposing.

F1 is offering a compensation of three million dollars over the already allotted 140 million dollars but Marko and Co. are not satisfied and want a further increase in the overall budget.

While big teams like Red Bull and Ferrari are in favor of increasing the budget cap, the smaller teams are quite happy to operate under the budget cap as they feel any increase in the budget at the current stage of the season would give the bigger team a huge advantage over the rest of the participating teams.

Formula One is a sport of fine margins and the smaller teams don’t want to lose any more ground to the bigger teams than they have already lost so far in the season.

Helmut Marko believes that Inflation which under normal circumstances stays around 1-2 percent has gone out of control and has pointed to the 8 percent that it is currently at.

As per Marko, the travel costs are killing everyone this season, and thus wants the hierarchy at Formula One to consider everything and try to increase the budget cap as much as possible.

Guenther Steiner the Haas team boss has previously said that they budgeted for the whole year in advance and if some teams are asking to increase the budget cap, their plea should be rejected as it would put the smaller teams at a disadvantage.

A lot has been said about the budget cap saga in recent weeks and given the way things are going, it seems it is going to continue like this for an unforeseeable future. It will be interesting to see what F1 ultimately decides to do regarding the issue that has got the bigger teams worried.
