Helmut Marko is reportedly concerned that Max Verstappen will ditch Red Bull for Mercedes due to Christian Horner ‘turbulence’

Numerous reports have emerged over the past few days that the situation has worsened regarding Christian Horner and the internal power struggles going on within Red Bull. Moreover, Jos Verstappen has publicly stated that due to the Brit, the team is falling apart, and Max Verstappen may switch to Mercedes power as soon as 2025. Now, Helmut Marko has entered the scene and is worried about Verstappen’s future with the Austrian outfit.
A situation of civil war has impulsed within the team. Verstappen’s father in an interview has stated that he wants Horner out of the team. Subsequently, the Mercedes team principal, Toto Wolff, has also refused to rule out the possibility of Verstappen joining the Silver Arrows.
This has stirred up the rumor mill in the paddock that the reigning champion might leave Red Bull after the end of the season. Following this, the Red Bull consultant has been reported to be concerned about the Dutchman’s relationship with the team and how strong it is.
Marko is concerned that the turbulence within the team could drive away Verstappen along with key officials. Moreover, this includes the legendary British designer, Adrian Newey and Ford, the oncoming engine partners for 2026 regulations. Such huge changes could hamper Red Bull and they could lose their direction. Thus, the Austrian would want things to settle down as quickly as possible.
Helmut Marko’s reaction to the document leak of Christian Horner’s investigation
After the end of Bahrain GP Free Practice sessions on Thursday, an anonymous source leaked the documents related to Horner’s investigation to F1 personnel and media outlets. This created an upcry in the paddock and took the Red Bull consultant by shock.
Marko while addressing the media said:

Marko was taken by shock by the allegedly leaked documents of his colleague’s investigation. The 80-year-old further stated that he had never seen the documents himself and it was his first time.
Thus, the situation in the energy drinks manufacturer seems to be quite sensitive. Currently, the team is dominating on track but when it comes to its off-track state, it is in utter shambles. The upcoming weeks/months could really dictate Red Bull’s future an an F1 team.
