Dr. Helmut Marko is the Red Bull Motorsport Consultant. The 80-year-old was a close confidant of late Red Bull co-owner Dietrich Mateschitz. As such, Marko holds major sway in decisions of the two F1 teams made by the energy drinks giant. Reports have emerged that a rival team was interested in poaching the Austrian.
Business F1 magazine has reported that Helmut Marko was approached by an F1 team. As per reports, the team wanted to bring Marko away from Red Bull. Although, the team is rumored to be primarily interested in obtaining information regarding the Milton Keynes-based team. Rather than wanting the expertise of the 80-year-old.
It is believed that Helmut Marko rejected the offer straight away. The Austrian wants to finish his long and successful career at Red Bull, the team he helped build from day one. The 80-year-old has played a major role in the success of the Milton Keynes-based team ever since Red Bull took over Jaguar’s F1 operation from Ford.

Tensions rising between Helmut Marko and Christian Horner
Helmut Marko has massive influence at Milton Keynes despite Christian Horner serving as Team Principal. After the death of Dietrich Mateschitz, rumors surfaced that Horner might be trying to get Marko away from Red Bull’s F1 operations. As the two were believed to be in conflict over certain decisions. This included the signing of Nyck de Vries at AlphaTauri.
Moreover, it was rumored that Max Verstappen made it clear that he would leave the team in case of Marko’s forceful exit. Subsequently, this solidified the 80-year-old place at the Austrian team once again. Although, Helmut Marko has faced backlash in recent weeks due to his alleged racist comments about Sergio Perez.
Certainly, Helmut Marko is one of the most prominent and outspoken characters in the F1 paddock. The 80-year-old has continued to be involved in the day-to-day operations at Red Bull and plans to keep it this way till his eventual retirement.
