Helmut Marko has been previously noted for his ‘strong wording’ against Lewis Hamilton and has taken a dig at the seven-time champion yet again. Marko is the director of the Red Bull F1 team and the head of the Red Bull Driver Academy. His seniority and experience make his words quite influential in the paddock.
According to Marko, Hamilton did not like that he was no longer the highest-paid driver on the grid. He further added that Hamilton cannot swallow the reality that he is no longer a world champion and a move to Red Bull won’t be on the cards anytime soon, so a move to Ferrari is his best bet.
There are two things that Hamilton cannot swallow the first is that he is no longer world champion and that it will not be easy to become one again. He knows he can't settle in Red Bull and that Ferrari might be better for him than Mercedes is not written in stone. Sporting aspect aside, Hamilton is not at all happy that he is no longer the highest paid driver on the starting grid, given that now the highest paid is Verstappen. This fact can change with the help of Ferrari.Helmut Marko while speaking to F1 Insider, via FormulaPassion.it.
Hamilton’s new contract with Ferrari is reportedly worth $430 million, this could be the basis on which Marko has claimed the Englishman’s switch to Ferrari power. The Briton has been on a drought of wins since his last win in 2021, along with the current status of Mercedes not catching up with Red Bull in terms of development might have influenced his decision to join the prancing horses.
Why did Lewis Hamilton leave Mercedes to for a seat at Ferrari?
After an 11-year-long partnership and 6 driver titles with Hamilton, everyone would be curious as to why Hamilton decided to leave Mercedes. The partnership between Mercedes and Hamilton dates back to his junior racing career, when he was powered by Mercedes-engined cars and McLaren’s Ron Dennis showed interest in him.

Hamilton eventually decided to leave McLaren in favour of Mercedes when everyone termed this move as a ‘no-brainer’ because Mercedes was a midfield team. However, this alliance became the most successful in the sport’s history and broke many records.
Fans and Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff believed that Hamilton would “end his legacy” with Mercedes, but a tempting move to Maranello seemed to be on Hamilton’s cards and he signed for the Scuderia. The seven-time champion now looks towards his time with Ferrari and aims to join a club of drivers who have won the championship for the Italian outfit.
