As the Formula One season proceeds, Red Bull continues to lead the field, with Mercedes battling to catch up. Despite this, Red Bull Racing’s motorsport advisor, Helmut Marko, insists he is not gloating. Marko understands Mercedes’ sense of defeat because his squad had to struggle for seven years before they could reach their present success.
Helmut Marko stated, “I know how Toto Wolff feels now, we also suffered seven years. That’s why there is no gloating.” Marko’s comment displays empathy for Mercedes, which was once the dominant power in Formula One but is now battling to stay up with Red Bull’s pace. Mercedes chose a fresh design idea the previous season, which did not provide the intended results. Despite making certain changes to last year’s design, they have not performed as well as they had intended.
Many teams across the paddock, notably Aston Martin, have revised their design concepts to align with Red Bull’s downwash side pod design. Marko, on the other hand, realises that this is only a part of the game. He feels that copying is a routine element of Formula One and that it is not dishonourable. He said,“Copying is part of everyday life in Formula 1. It’s about having the fastest car possible and celebrating successes.”

Red Bull are only focused on retaining their lead with rivals strive to catchup

Red Bull’s performance this season has been exceptional winning all the three races, and Marko believes that it is crucial to stay ahead of the competition. He says, “You don’t accept years of failure just because you’re too proud to admit that others have done better.” Red Bull‘s dominance this season has put them at the top of the standings, and the team’s focus is to maintain their lead. “I don’t care who’s where. The most important thing is that we are first,” Marko added.
Despite Mercedes‘ struggles, they have not lost their determination to make a comeback. The team is currently redesigning their entire concept, with major upgrades scheduled for the upcoming races, including the Imola GP. The teams up and down the grid have now started to align their design concepts with Red Bull, and Marko would understand if Mercedes decides to adopt some aspects of Red Bull’s RB19 car to improve their own performance.
Red Bull presently sets the bar for the rest of the teams. Helmut Marko’s comment demonstrates the importance of empathy and understanding even in the face of success. He understands that copying is a part of the game, and that the goal is to have the quickest automobile possible. It remains to be seen if Mercedes will be able to catch up to Red Bull’s superior pace as the season progresses.
