“He’s been PR brainwashed,” Fans tear into Carlos Sainz after Spaniard defends Ferrari strategy at French GP

Carlos Sainz

Carlos Sainz has had to face the brunt on social media after what transpired at the French GP. It was yet another race when Ferrari got it horribly wrong in addition to the mistake committed by Charles Leclerc. After having the perfect qualifying session, in which Carlos Sainz gave the tow to Charles Leclerc to secure pole, it was advantage Ferrari on a circuit where overtaking was so difficult.

But, Ferrari being Ferrari, somehow found a reason to mess it all up. The Spaniard was starting from the back of the grid after taking an engine penalty but it was pretty clear that he had the pace to dash through the field and with a bit of luck, could very well find himself on the podium. He did get that piece of luck when his team mate Charles Leclerc crashed.

This meant that he had the chance to get a free pit stop. But, the situation quickly changed after a pretty slow pit stop. Things went from bad to worse as he got copped a 5 second penalty for an unsafe release. Despite of all of this, his pace looked strong but a very late pit stop meant he had absolutely no chance of try and get anywhere close to the podium place.

Carlos Sainz, irrespective of that, defended the team’s strategy to which the fans said, “He’s been PR brainwashed.” The Spaniard after the race had said, “I think the team is doing a very good job on strategy this year.”

I still believe at Ferrari we get super-criticised for things that other teams might be going through also in the pit stop windows, and every time there’s a tricky moment on strategy, we are discussing things.

But we are not a disaster like people seem to say we are. We like to discuss things, we are open about them.”

This definitely sounded like a planned post race interview because Carlos Sainz was evidently frustrated during the race after the team tried to call him in when he was in the middle of a move.
