Max Verstappen has held that role of being the No. 1 driver for Red Bull for a really long time but this sudden spurt of form shown by Sergio Perez has made things interesting in the Red Bull garage. The Mexican is now just 15 points behind Max Verstappen in the driver standing. When we thought it’s going to be a two horse race for the title, Sergio Perez has produced some impressive results to bring him in the mix.
Sergio Perez has always been there or there about but wasn’t able to get over the line. But that was brought to an as he won his 2nd race with Red Bull in the principality. The Mexican was visibly fuming after the Spanish GP when was given team orders to let Max Verstappen through and looked like a man on a mission in Monaco as he defended for his life against Carlos Sainz to win the Monaco GP.
Jos Verstappen was not happy with the strategy opted for his son, Max Verstappen, and wanted Red Bull to prioritize him. But, it was pretty clear that the most important thing for Red Bull was to undercut Ferrari more than anything else. But what this means that Christian Horner and Red Bull will be under immense pressure if a situation like this occurs in the upcoming races keeping in mind Sergio Perez is right on Max Verstappen’s tail and a definite contender for the title.

Emerson Fittipaldi believes that Sergio Perez has hit form at the right time and expects this tussle to continue. In an interview, he said, “Red Bull is going fast, Verstappen is doing really well. Pérez is surprising us. He is in a very strong position.“
“He just signed a new contract for a minimum of two years and he is running strong now. His position is going to put tremendous pressure on Verstappen.”

Max Verstappen has always been used to team mates playing second fiddle to him ever since Daniel Ricciardo left Red Bull. This is something that the Dutchman is not used to and will have to bring his A game to the table if he wants to continue having that supremacy.
