Jos Verstappen, former F1 driver and father of reigning F1 World Champion stated that he was “disappointed” with Red Bull’s tactic at the Monaco Grand Prix, which he thought did not aid son Max’s win bid. Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner has now responded to the quip.
Verstappen’s teammate Mexican driver Sergio Perez won the tricky Monaco Grand Prix at the Circuit de Monaco, with teammate Max Verstappen finishing at P3. Jos Verstappen was anything but pleased with this outcome to the race.
“Red Bull achieved a good result, but at the same time exerted little influence to help Max to the front. That he finished third, he owes to Ferrari’s mistake at that second stop of Charles Leclerc,” said Jos.
Christian Horner responds to Jos Verstappen’s criticism
Christian Horner, team principal of Austria-based racing team Red Bull Racing has now responded to the insinuations, admitting that Jos Verstappen cannot be purely impartial as Max’s parent.
“But what wasn’t apparent was all the information that we have during a race, and of course, if we had pitted, he would have come out behind George [Russell] at the time. I think Jos is his own person, isn’t he? He’s his own personality,” commented Horner on being asked about the possibilities of Jos publishing his reaction to his remarks on his column.
“He’s obviously got opinions on it, and that’s absolutely fine. That’s his opinion. The reality for us was obviously slightly different, so it’s no issue,” concluded Horner who has recently mentioned how happy he is about seeing Sergio Perez being thrusted into the title championship race.
