“He’s screwed up enough of his own”: Ralf Schumacher critical of Charles Leclerc
Ferrari racer Charles Leclerc, although an extremely talented and gifted racer, has shown yet again in the Monaco Grand Prix that he does not have the tactical mentality that his Championship rival Max Verstappen does. This has driven him to make more than one mistake in his 2022 campaign and German racer Ralf Schumacher believes it is high time the Monegasque owns up to his own flaws before pointing his fingers at Ferrari.
Last week in Monaco, we heard an exasperated Charles Leclerc scream on the team radio as his race engineer gave him ambiguous directions on whether he should pit or not. The time that Charles lost during this conversation with his engineer, cost him a precious podium finish in his home Grand Prix, and the Scuderia racer was not happy about it. In the post-race interview, Charles Leclerc let his disappointment be known as he said his Ferrari team had made several errors.
But in Ralf Schumacher’s opinion, Charles Leclerc needs to correct his own mistakes first as he has already made so many in this season of Formula 1. During the initial races of the 2022 F1 season, Charles was being pegged as a Championship favorite, but now, many F1 pundits have said he needs to be much more attentive to his flaws if he wants to contest against Verstappen for winning the World Drivers’ Championship.
Ralf Schumacher believes Charles Leclerc has a long way to go before becoming an F1 World Champion
The making of a World Champion is a cumulative outcome of hard work by the racer as well as his entire team. The Scuderia Ferrari have built the perfect car for Charles Leclerc, but he seems to make too many mistakes while racing on the tracks to clinch the title of the World Champion.
During the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday, Charles Leclerc had qualified for the race in the pole position, and his fans were hoping he would win his third Grand Prix of this season in his home country. But the weather conditions drove him and his team to debate over changing his tyres from West to intermediates. That was a mistaken decision as it cost him a few places.
Then, Charles was called into the pits once again to go back to the slick tyres. During the second pit stop, he went into a double stack at the Ferrari station, losing precious time that made him fall back a few places again.
While speaking of Charles Leclerc’s performance in the Monaco Grand Prix, Ralf Schuacher said to Sky Sports Deutschland, “He’s screwed up enough himself, so he should be quiet.”
Schumacher further continued, “Things happen. You win together and lose together. So far, the team has done less wrong than he has.”
