Sergio Perez had a disastrous weekend at the Qatar GP. He qualified 13th for the race and qualified 12th for the Sprint race. Due to a crash with Esteban Ocon, he DNF’ed from the Sprint race, scoring zero points. In the main race, he barely scored points after finishing tenth, while his teammate Max Verstappen secured his 14th win of the season.
At the beginning of the season, it seemed as if Perez had the pace to challenge his teammate Verstappen for the Championship potentially. But it all turned south after the summer break for unforeseeable reasons. Perez is currently at 224 points, trailing his teammate by 209 points [ Verstappen has 433 points]. He just couldn’t perform the same as he did before the break, where the point disparity wasn’t so much.
Red Bull team boss Christian Horner, while discussing Perez’s performance recently, claims that the squad needs Perez to ‘desperately rediscover’ his form to keep his position in the Championship standing. Horner adds, as reported by autosport.com, “We desperately need him to find that form to keep this second place in the championship.”
Horner says how it is ‘frustrating’ seeing Perez race around the track; he adds, “it was frustrating that he’s only come out of the weekend with one point,” but he reassures his faith in him and says, “But we’ll support him as much as we can.”

What does Helmut Marko think about Sergio Perez?
Helmut Marko, The Red Bull advisor, has been targeting Perez and claims that replacements are available for him in the sister team Alphatauri, saying that “there are three relatively good drivers in Alphatauri”.
Horner said that Perez needs to focus on the races ahead of him and needs to stop his “merry-go-round” of a form and “go back to basics” before the triple-header of races in the following weeks [ United States, Mexico, Brazil].
Horner says that Red Bull has lost a driver pairing- comparable to the evenly matched that of McLaren [Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri], Mercedes [Lewis Hamilton and George Russell], and other teams on the grid. Says the most important thing for us is to “Win championships and races”.
