“I am far behind,” Carlos Sainz admits to be out of the title race

After a very dominant start into the season by Ferrari, both Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc hoped that they would be on the top of the standings by now, but things didn’t seem to go that way, especially for Carlos Sainz. Though he had a strong start, things started to go the wrong way after he slid into the gravel in Australia and had to retire his car, and the same thing happened during the first lap in Imola.

The Spaniard also spun in Spain, but managed to keep going, but ultimately a car failure saw him retiring at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. All of this has impacted his performance and him, mentally, making it difficult for him to score better.

All of these early retirements from races have now affected Sainz a lot, and he has fallen back in the chase for the championship, and the season that began with a hope to chase the championship, has now taken a dark turn for the Spaniard. The championship now looks distant to him, and as he stated, he is not thinking about the championship because of all those incidents. Sainz repeatedly stated in many of the races that the car is not comfortable for him to drive, which could be a factor for his underperformance.

“I prefer not to think about it,” Carlos Sainz states after falling 67 points behind the leader.

Carlos Sainz himself has made a few mistakes, and a lot is to be improved in the car. The reliability issues that the cars have been facing are no joke, and Sainz has now changed his perspective for the championship, as GPBlog quoted him, “No, not really, in that sense my approach has changed a little bit, because it is true that with my zero points finishes I am far behind in the World Cup. That hurt and from that moment on I prefer not to think about the championship.”

Carlos Sainz dropped back and now stands 5th in the championship, behind George Russell, with just 83 points, whereas his teammate, Charles Leclerc stands 3rd with 116 points. Leclerc dropped from leading the championship due to similar reliability issues from the Ferrari engines. Other teams using Ferrari engines faced similar problems, and is becoming a major issue which needs to be sorted out by the Scuderia.
