“I am looking forward to repaying their trust with my work,” Andreas Seidl becomes CEO of Sauber Group after leaving McLaren F1 team
Andreas Seidl joins the Sauber Group as the new CEO after exiting McLaren
Andreas Seidl will depart from his role as Team Principal at McLaren, and will join Sauber Group as the new CEO of the organization. The 46-year-old will start working at the Swedish outfit in January 2023, with Seidl’s position at McLaren being taken over by Andrea Stella. Andreas will not fill the vacated seat of Team Principal at the Sauber-run Alfa Romeo F1 team but rather work with the team to find a suitable candidate.
Andreas Seidl’s appointment comes as no surprise considering Audi’s takeover of the team in 2026. Seidl has previously been a key part of Volkswagen’s motorsport endeavors, running the LMP1 projects of Audi as well as sister-company Porsche. As such the German has been seen as a perfect fit for the role. Although this position will also see Andreas overlooking the organization’s business activities outside of Formula 1.
Seidl expressed his excitement for the new challenge at his hands, from the start of the new year, the 46-year-old stated, “It is great to join the Sauber Group from January,” The German acknowledged the legacy of the Swedish outfit, where Andreas himself had worked during the BMW era, Andreas Seidl remarked, “This is a team with a rich history in F1 and an organization I know really well from my time working and living in Hinwil for four years.”
Andreas Seidl will not be a replacement for the outgoing Vasseur, rather Seidl will oversee the entire Sauber Group
Andreas was quick to express his gratitude towards the organization and was keen on working towards success with his new team, Seidl said, “I can’t wait to join the team and work with all the colleagues at the Sauber Group on the ambitious goals we have set together. I want to thank Finn Rausing and everyone at the Sauber Group for their choice.” The German continued, “I am looking forward to repaying their trust with my work.”
Sauber Group Chairman, Finn Rausing gave a warm welcome to Andreas on his return to the team and said, “It is an immense pleasure to welcome Andreas Seidl back to Hinwil as CEO of the Sauber Group.” Seidl will be tasked to continue the progress made by the Swedish team under the reign of Frederic Vasseur, Rausing was confident regarding the German’s capabilities. Finn said, “Andreas’s experience is second to none and he brings to Sauber Group a clear understanding of what is required to achieve sustained success.”
The Sauber CEO hinted at a long-term relationship between Seidl and his new team, evidently indicating the Audi roots being a key part of this decision, Rausing further elaborated, “He takes over a company on an upward path and he shares our commitment to keeping our organisation growing. I look forward to many years of success together.” Thus it seems that Andreas has got immense support on his back to lead the group.
However it will be no easy task, Andreas Seidl will have to oversee the team’s activities and work on fixing the flaws before Audi enters the sport in 2026. After the German manufacturer comes, there will be no room for error. Thus Seidl will be having a busy couple of years as he starts a new chapter in his career, and perhaps the most crucial one yet. The German would be looking to deliver a high-stakes challenge as soon as possible and maybe get Sauber toward victory.
