“I am not as comfortable as I was at the beginning,” Sergio Perez admits to not being in tune with the RB18

Sergio Perez finished the Belgium Grand Prix in P2 but was way behind Max Verstappen in terms of extracting performance out of the car and has admitted that he wants the Milton-Keynes-based team to take a different approach on his RB18 to that of Max Verstappen’s car.
Sergio Perez, after 14 rounds, has got 191 points to his name and is behind his Dutch teammate who has amassed a massive 284 points within the same number of races.
However, there was a point in the season when the Mexican was only 15 points adrift of Verstappen, but ever since Red Bull brought its major upgrade to its car in Silverstone, it is believed that Perez has not been comfortable with the handling of the RB18.
To put things into perspective, the 32-year-old started the Belgium Grand Prix in P2 compared to Verstappen’s P14 and despite the better grid start, he ended the race a disappointing 17 seconds behind his teammate.
The Dutch Grand Prix is just a few days away, and Sergio Perez wants the team to take a different path with his livery for the remaining races of the season.
While talking about the same, Perez said, “Well, certainly the car has become quicker from the beginning of the season, but I’m not as comfortable as I was at the beginning of the season.”
“It’s something that I need to work on, on my side to make sure we are able to get the maximum out of the car.”
Sergio Perez wants to get everything out of his car in the remaining races of the season
Sergio Perez feels that if his car is set up in a different way then he would be able to extract the maximum performance out of his car and has further added, “Sometimes things become more natural for you to get the most out of your car, and sometimes you have to work really hard and go very deep in the analysis to make sure you are able to extract the maximum.”
“It seems that we are in that window at the moment.”
“I really hope from this weekend, we run the cars slightly differently, so we are able to spot some differences that can bring some performance on our side.”
The Mexican was recently asked to give his opinion on the Championship battle this season and how he is looking at it considering his P2, Perez said, “There are still eight races to go, so anything can really happen, we will try to maximize.”
“The constructors’ [championship] is very important for us as well. Right now we are in a great position, but things can change fairly quickly.”
“So, as a team, we want to maximize everything we possibly can, every weekend.”
Sergio Perez has done his best to dodge the question regarding this season’s Drivers Championship battle but has given insights into Red Bull’s fight with Ferrari.
He believes that there are still 8 races left in the season where anything can happen and thus is willing to get the maximum out of the car so that he is not left with any regrets at the end of the season.
