“I can see Lewis getting disillusioned,” John Watson believes Hamilton will have a hard time dealing with the failure this season

With already four disappointing races to start the season with, Lewis Hamilton’s hopes for the eighth title seem to be diminishing as there appears to be no solution for Mercedes‘ challenge of porpoising so far. The 7x world champion is far from the front of the grid and struggles to find the pace, unlike his teammate George Russell.
With performances below from even Lewis’ wildest dreams, the 75-year-old ex-F1 driver John Watson believes that the Mercedes driver must be disillusioned by the recent form. And while Lewis has tried to squash all the rumors of his retirement and departure from Mercedes, John still thinks that the former will look have retirement in his mind.
While speaking with Daily Mail, Watson said, “I can see Lewis getting disillusioned. The grind of being a Grand Prix driver becomes significantly harder when the car is not good. And for Lewis, given his age and the whippersnappers coming through, every year will be more and more difficult.”
John Watson on Lewis Hamilton’s retirement

Rumors of Lewis Hamilton’s retirement surfaced after it was believed that the Briton had a verbal argument with Mercedes’ team principal Toto Wolff. The argument was based on the poor performance of the W13, which has challenged Hamilton’s performance severely.
Despite Lewis denying the rumors, Watson said, “The important thing is to know when to get out. Has he stayed a season too long? I think he will take until Silverstone to see if he is back at the races and getting podiums. There is a lot to weigh up. His legacy is a major consideration. He wants to be an eight-time world champion, but he may now realise he will never achieve that.”
A challenge for the Briton currently is to even outperform his teammate George Russell, who has made top 5 finishes in all the races so far. With pressure to perform increasing every race weekend, Lewis must find a way with his engineers to find quick podiums, before things get out of hand.
