The McLaren driver, Lando Norris found himself on the step of the podium in P3, come the end of Imola Grand Prix. The British driver had a successful weekend out in Italy by scoring 15 points on the Sunday and 4 points in the sprint race on Saturday. The MCL-36 of Lando Norris seemed to have great pace as he also managed to grab the P3 spot on the grid in Qualifying on Friday. He managed to out score and out qualify his team mate, Daniel Ricciardo who had a rather unpleasant weekend finishing in P18 in the Imola Grand Prix.

Lando Norris has shown signs of promise this season ever since Formula 1 visited Saudi Arabia for the second round. McLaren had a very rough start as they finished the opening round of the season in P14 and P15. The Brit, Lando Norris has scored points in three races consecutively ever since and has helped McLaren to acquire 4th position in the constructors standings. The misfortune of the Ferrari drivers in Imola, opened the gates to success for Lando Norris. Currently, he sits in 6th position in the drivers standings, scoring a haul of 35 points in the season.

Mclaren team has changed its fortune ever since visiting Australia for the third round, where they scored a double points finish. The team carried the momentum to Imola, where their driver, Lando Norris was opportunistic. The Brit reflected on the season so far saying “From where we were, what, three or four weeks ago in Bahrain, to be on a podium, I genuinely didn’t think we would be on the podium all year after Bahrain. So it’s quite a shock.”

The Ferrari and Red Bull team possess to have the fastest car on the grid in the current Formula 1 season. Commenting on the Imola race, Lando Norris said “It’s hard to ever imagine yourself on the podium, and a great result today would have been P5. But a few good things [happened] throughout this race, an amazing start to be ahead of the Ferraris, to stay out of the chaos which happened behind. I guess [it was] a lonely but a great race.”

Mclaren showed promising signs in the pre-season test in Spain, but all the progress derailed going to Bahrain. Lando Norris continues to be opportunistic and exploit the pace that his MCL-36 possesses. It remains to be seen whether Mclaren’s performance was track specific or if the team has really turned the tide.
