Bernie Ecclestone has finally given his opinion on the war between Ukraine and Russia, which has disturbed the entire world. Russia decided to invaded Ukraine which sparked a regional war between the two countries, leading to one third of the Ukrainian population being displaced and also led to global food shortage. This war actually began in 2014 and this is a major escalation of the previous event.

F1 has also been affected by the war, especially teams like Haas, which were backed by Russian oligarch, Dmitry Mazepin. The American team was one of the first teams to act upon it as it decided to drop their major sponsor, Uralkali and also their Russian driver, Nikita Mazepin. This is set to cost them around $40 million over the year but Haas’ team Principal, Guenther Steiner, had made it clear that it’s important to take staunch stand more than anything else.

Majority of people across the global share a common perception over this issue and that is the invasion was a horrific act. But, Bernie Ecclestone holds a different belief to the majority as he believes the Ukraine leader, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, should have listened to the Kremlin and spoken to Vladimir Putin to avoid the war that was declared by Russia.

In a bizarre interview, Bernie Ecclestone said that he would take a bullet for Vladimir Putin as he is a ‘first class’ person. Talking about the war, he said, “The other person in Ukraine, his profession I understand, used to be a comedian – and I think it seems that he wants to continue that profession.”

“I think if he’d thought about things, he would definitely have made a big enough effort to speak to Putin, who is a sensible person, and would have listened to him and could have probably done something about it.”

“I think it’s wrong, to stop Russian athletes, including obviously drivers, in taking part in their sport. They didn’t get involved in this in the first place. They shouldn’t be punished.”

Bernie Ecclestone’s views on the current war haven’t gone down with most people as Russia’s act were prima facie, wrong and Ukraine defended like any free country would have.
